ABOUT THE ARTIST

I was born and grew up in Bulgaria. Since early childhood I have enjoyed being outdoors. My fascination with Nature grew later on when I studied Landscape architecture and Horticulture and learned about plants in more detail. Living in Japan after college further helped me discover the beauty of Nature and pay attention to detail as I admired the unique way Japanese people treat and respect the natural environment.
I love plants, and being outdoors, and one of my hobbies is taking pictures of plants. What particularly fascinates me is the beauty of a leaf or a flower petal when exposed to sunlight (or any light), so that one clearly sees its structural characteristics. Such details captivate me, and in turn I try to capture them through a camera lens. I believe that observing plants leads to endless discoveries, and beauty can be found in a piece of lichen, a dried leaf or a vegetable. Sometimes while cooking I will stop to take a picture, charmed by a beautiful chard leaf, rhubarb stem, purple cabbage or a crinkled lettuce. I hope you enjoy the Botanical Patterns I have been creating while appreciating plants!

CREATIVE PROCESS

While enjoying my photographs I create botanical collages by using segments of photographs depicting leaves, stems, bark, flower petals, or other parts of plants that have caught my attention. I use simple operations in a photo editing software. I enjoy the process of transforming a part of the original photo into a digital art that emphasizes the botanical pattern.
