ABOUT THE ARTIST

Dave Petranek is a retired Landscape Architect and landscape contractor from Janesville WI. I have always been a collector- rocks, shells, fossils, and recently driftwood. One autumn day while combing on a lonely stretch of Lake Superior, I spied several pieces of driftwood that resembled various bird parts. The first bird was born at the beach and a bag of driftwood found a new home. Now, the flock is gathering as I gather parts from Lake Michigan and as far as Chesapeake Bay

CREATIVE PROCESS

My intention was to create whimsical, fictitious driftwood birds, while keeping the driftwood natural with minimal color staining for my 'Birds of Extinction.
