ABOUT THE ARTIST

David has been painting all of his life but has specialized in watercolors and water media since 2010. He says “There is a freedom in watercolor which adds to the naturalness and excitement in a painting”. His representational style emphasizes design and movement over strict realism. He has been juried into many shows, won awards and appeared in various galleries, museums and venues in the Midwest. David normally paints in his studio but also participates in a number of plein air events each year.

CREATIVE PROCESS

I create watercolors that connect us by transforming the ordinary into the sublime, finding the compelling and transcendent in the mundane and the overlooked.

When I paint, the real world and its worries are forgotten. My goal is to create an experience where the viewer loses themselves in my art. I see art as a form of connection. Art is one way we can find common ground.

Breaking away from strict reality creates emotional content and challenges expectations. Art ideally opens itself up to multiple interpretations and stories and lets the viewer invent their own meaning and becoming an active participant.

I paint from photos, combinations of photos and life. I want to go beyond reality and into an emotional truth and experience.

My paintings are varnished to remove the barrier of glass between the image and the viewer and deepen our connection.

I only use animal friendly supplies because I think it is important to maintain a connection to the planet and be a steward of our world. Art has meaning.
