ABOUT THE ARTIST

With inner reflection, color, and texture, art has brought me on a journey to heal from the past. I have not only found myself, but have found a way to express what is inside. Combining techniques and beads found across Turtle Island and generations, I bring them together to tell a story of a little girl born and raised on the Leech Lake Reservation growing up unsure of her place in this big world.

I am Dee "White Wolf" Croaker, Crane clan and a member of the Leech Lake Band of Ojibwe in Minnesota residing in Baraboo, Wisconsin. Art, in its various forms, has been a part of my life as long as I can remember. I recall learning various crafts and music with my mom, family friends, and through community classes. I put art on hold while raising my child, and after he was grown and my mom passed, I found my way back to art again in an effort to navigate my grief and cover funeral expenses. What started as $40 in fabric at JoAnn's has led me on a journey of self discovery, healing, and learning. Whether it's unique jewelry collections combined with photography and art, or canvas paintings adorned with pieces of beadwork, I am finding a way to tell my story.
