ABOUT THE ARTIST

Born and raised in Rochester, NY, I moved with my family of 6 to Madison in January of 2019.

I’ve loved making artwork for as long as I can remember, but here, in Madison, Wisconsin, I fell in love with fluid, abstract, and textured artwork. Covid quarantine set the stage for retreating into my “art dungeon” (unfinished basement) and much experimentation. The process of creating artwork has been a kind of release and retreat in the midst of life’s challenges. Most recently, I’ve been experimenting with texture artwork. I’m inspired by nature, wonder, gratitude, and beauty as I jog or bike around town, and try to incorporate shapes and natural elements into my work.

CREATIVE PROCESS

When I start a painting, I don’t usually have a plan for the end result. It starts with an idea or question like, “I wonder what would happen if…?” or “I love the shape of this! How can I use this in my artwork?” and I figure it out as I go. I usually work with acrylic paint—blowing paint with a straw, mouth, blow dryer, torch, etc. and tilting, pouring, mixing, spreading, scraping, splattering, spinning, throwing, dropping, etc. Lately I’ve been scraping texture mediums over plants, sanding, and painting.
