ABOUT THE ARTIST

Julia Hintz-Hosfeld is an artist and entrepreneur based in Mosinee, WI. She discovered a love for heavy texture acrylic paint and a technique known as paint sculpting during covid, when a time of quiet and solitude led to a rediscovery of her artistic beginnings.

One of thirteen children, Julia’s childhood was deeply rooted in a free expression of the arts. Her Mom provided limitless art supplies, and the children would frequently host art shows where their parents would buy their creations with spare change. This hugely influenced her creative spirit and contributed to her use of color and texture to evoke feelings of joy, serenity, boldness, and whimsy.

CREATIVE PROCESS

Using only heavy body acrylic paint and experimental tools similar to what a cake decorator would use, Julia carefully paint-sculpts each flower and leaf by hand. The color variations in the flower petals are due to how the paint is layered inside a piping bag. This process produces flowers that are each their own one-of-a-kind, unique pieces of art, as Julia has no control over the organic way the paints blend together as the flower is formed.

From the delicate, hand-formed petals created solely with acrylic paint, to large floral arrangements abounding with vibrant color and texture, Julia’s pieces are intended to be appreciated both for their individual elements, as well as their overall composition and impact.
