ABOUT THE ARTIST

“My paintings and drawings are reflections of my mind’s journey through those childhood places where the remembered and imagined intersect.”

Karen Williams-Brusubardis is a Milwaukee-based artist, creating contemporary landscape paintings inspired by autobiographical experiences, memories and places. Born into a blended Bolivian-American family in rural western Wisconsin, Karen spent most of her childhood exploring the woods surrounding her parents' retired mink ranch. She was an introverted, quiet and sensitive child with a love of exploring both the world around her and the world inside her mind.

After high school, Karen moved to Milwaukee to attend The Milwaukee Institute of Art & Design where she received a BFA in painting 4 years later. Over the years, she has refined her aesthetic style of painting whimsical, yet meditative landscapes patterned with vibrant color combinations woven together with symbolic imagery referencing ancestral connections and personal experiences born out of a difficult past, wrestled and reconciled with and reborn into “My Paracosm”.

Karen currently shares a studio with her husband in the Marshall Building in the Third Ward in Milwaukee.
