ABOUT THE ARTIST

Lucienne Philipp is a Madison-based ceramic artist whose work centers on wheel-thrown pottery and functional forms. Inspired by the process of throwing itself, she explores traditional ceramic shapes through contemporary design, creating pieces that balance craftsmanship, utility, and artistic expression. Her passion for ceramics extends beyond the studio, with aspirations to continue teaching, creating, and building community through the medium.

CREATIVE PROCESS

I utilize the potter's wheel in all of my work. The practice of wheel throwing is an essential part of my process and something I gravitate towards. I enjoy experimenting with traditional forms in non-traditional ways. The potter's wheel is not solely the tool I use, it also provides inspiration for my artistic choices. In the future, I hope to continue ceramics whether that be teaching, working as a studio artist, or running a communal ceramics studio.
