ABOUT THE ARTIST

I have a BFA in Figure Drawing and CA degree in Illustration. I learned copperplate etching from Andy Balkin. I began a personal MFA by drawing specimens at the UW Zoology Museum here in Madison - starting with skulls, articulated skeletons, then skins and mounts. Still doing this after 30 years. I always work from the actual model, not photos. I'm never just drawing 'a fox' - it will show 'this fox' exactly - I'm passionate about details. (When the museum was locked during Covid - relied on photos.) I always begin with the eye. Raised in Baraboo, I do some Devil's Lake and Dells images. My husband is from Hawaii so inspiration there. My Irish mother loved American Indian culture so I'm influenced by that (thought I was Indian until first grade...). My College Minor is in American Indian Studies.
