ABOUT THE ARTIST

Hello! I am The Joyful Felter.

I started making felt flowers several years ago as a way to find joy in a chaotic world. Creating felt flowers combines my enthusiasm for crafting and color with my passion for gardening. Once I realized how much I loved working with felt, I wanted to share that joy with others. I have taught felt flower workshops locally at MSCR, Monroe Street Arts Center, and the Textile Arts Center.

I studied art at Harvard College and UC Berkeley, but struggled to find my medium until I found felt! I love the permanent yet whimsical representations of flowers I can create in felt.

If you take home one of my creations, I hope it brings you joy!

CREATIVE PROCESS

I make very detailed, one-of-a-kind heirloom felt flowers from patterns I design.

After doing a study of a particular flower (taking it apart, making measurements, looking at photographs, etc.), I experiment with how to make a representation in felt. My primary materials are felt (100% wool felt, wool blend felt, recycled felt or a mix) and hot glue. I use other materials, including paper, wires, branches, oil pastels, and colored pencils, to enhance the finished works.
