ABOUT THE ARTIST

Tyna is a self-taught artist who grew up on a dairy farm in Brooklyn, Wisconsin. Drawing was a normal form of expression at a young age through high school. Scenes often depicted barns, trees, landscapes, animals and people.

In 2014, after suffering a heart attack, caused by a Spontaneous Coronary Artery Dissection (SCAD), Tyna was prescribed three months of inactivity to allow healing.

Not one to sit still, three months idle was NOT something of interest. However, the seriousness of her situation brought her face-to-face with feelings of uncertainty and fear, mixed with gratitude along with sprinkles of anger and frustration.

Tyna needed to find a way to occupy her mind and hands, but sit still at the same time. And so the journey began. She started with decoupage collages as a creative outlet and found a way to express and explore her inner animosity. She experimented with pyrography, acrylic and watercolor paints, markers, resin, alcohol ink and more. What began as a personal journey of healing soon evolved into a passion to create.

In 2024, Tyna experienced another SCAD heart attack. She believes it is her time to share her passion with others.

CREATIVE PROCESS

Primarily working in mixed media, I enjoy using bold colors, intricate patterns, and dramatic lines to evoke playfulness, wonder and energetic connection.
