ABOUT THE ARTIST

Tenzin Cornacchione is a Madison-based designer and multimedia artist. Seeking a creative outlet beyond daily design work, Tenzin shifted focus after hours to handmade physical mediums. Using yarn, clay, and other materials, Tenzin translates graphic concepts, animal motifs, and everyday objects into physical art through techniques like tufting and ceramics.

CREATIVE PROCESS

I create custom rugs using a tufting gun, wooden frame, and yarn. The process begins by sketching or projecting a reference image onto tufting cloth. I outline and fill the design with yarn, then seal the back with adhesive. After a 24-hour drying period, I cut the piece from the frame, secure the edges, and apply a non-slip backing. Finally, I carve the rug using electric shears and a razor to separate colors and define the surface, finishing with small scissors for precise detailing.
