Angelina Hassler

I work primarily with Sennelier soft and oil pastels, drawn to their rich texture and expressive qualities. With soft pastel, I build layers of pigment through blending and mark-making to create atmosphere, depth, and subtle detail. When working with oil pastel, I often use Gamsol to dissolve and move the pigment, creating washes and painterly effects similar to oil paint while maintaining the unique texture and immediacy of pastel. I enjoy the balance between realism and expression that these materials offer, allowing me to capture not just how a subject looks, but the mood and feeling behind it.
