ABOUT THE ARTIST

Hi, my name is Mike Velotta and I'm Wisconsin-based artist, crafts-maker, and the creative force behind Dragonfly Arts. I'm a U.S. Army veteran with a background in nutrition, health, and wellness, and I try to bring a thoughtful and purposeful approach to everything I create.

My work ranges from handcrafted small-batch soap to woodworking, acrylic art, and other creative explorations. I have always been inspired by craftsmanship, natural materials, and the simple satisfaction of making something by hand. I believe the best creations balance beauty with purpose.

Every new batch I make is an opportunity to experiment, learn, and make something honest and meaningful. For me, the creative process is as important as the finished piece, and it's a chance to turn an idea into something tangible.

CREATIVE PROCESS

My soap making begins with formulation, not decoration. Each Dragonfly Arts bar is developed from scratch using the cold-process method, with carefully selected oils and ingredients chosen for their individual properties and how they work together. I focus on creating a balance of cleansing, lather, conditioning, hardness, and longevity, while keeping the ingredients purposeful and the process thoughtful. I do not add fluff just to fill the packaging, as it were!

I draw inspiration from the simple, everyday experience of using something that was made well. I experiment, test, refine, and document each recipe so that creativity never comes at the expense of function. Natural colors, textures, and subtle variations are embraced as part of the handmade process, but ultimately, the goal is simple: to create soap that feels good, works well, and gives people a small moment of comfort and care in their day.
