Kathy Walter

From my earliest memories I have been fascinated by the natural world around me. I had many collections of insects, rocks, stones and feathers as a child, that I examined and drew. I trained as an art teacher and taught all levels from kindergarten to college level. I lived in the country on a 10 acre farm for 40 years. Nature has always been inspiration for me. My early work was in watercolor, specifically, botanical illustration. I felt a need to add dimension to my work and I began to add painted petals and leaves to the surface. I have exhibited my mixed media work in many places around the state. Since retiring from teaching and moving to Madison I have worked in paper sculpture and relief paper collage using old maps and other paper ephemera to add texture and depth.
