ABOUT THE ARTIST

Richard Washburn is a Wisconsin watercolor artist whose work explores the transparent, atmospheric qualities of watercolor through experimentation with color, technique, and composition. Raised in rural northern Wisconsin, he earned a BA in Art and Graphic Design from UW–Green Bay before pursuing careers in CAD, engineering, and design. Returning to art in 2022, Richard has focused on developing his watercolor practice, creating expressive paintings inspired by landscapes, wildlife, travel, and the natural world.

CREATIVE PROCESS

I am drawn to the unique transparent and atmospheric effects of watercolor painting. Subject matter is a secondary consideration, at the moment, to experimenting with color and technique.
